Update on Solitude Mountain Resort’s extensive summer projects
SOLITUDE, Utah — Solitude Mountain Resort is making progress on multiple extensive summer projects. With $16 million in capital improvements in the pipeline, here are the latest updates happening at the resort:
- New high-speed 6-person lift: Say goodbye to Eagle Express! This familiar lift is being removed to make room for an advanced replacement. The upcoming chairlift will load and unload guests at similar locations, but with enhanced guest flow. The installation process involves pouring concrete foundations for new lift towers, with terminal installations scheduled to start in September. By mid-December 2023, the brand-new Eagle Express will be up and running.
- Improved skier access: Honeycomb Canyon will be even more accessible this winter. Solitude Mountain Resort is installing three Wyssen remote avalanche control systems (RACS) off of Fantasy Ridge. These state-of-the-art towers will enable the resort’s avalanche mitigation team to safely detonate explosive charges in crucial areas of the mountain.
- Mountain bike trails: Gravity Logic and the Solitude Bike Park team are diligently crafting a series of new trails. Located off of Moonbeam Express, these trails will offer a mix of technical challenges and freeride excitement. Riders of all skill levels will find something to enjoy as the trails vary in difficulty. The goal is to have them completed and open for riding before the end of the season.
“We know these trail closures can be frustrating in the short term, and we’re grateful for the community’s patience,” Amber L. Broadaway, Solitude’s president and COO, said in a press release. “With a new downhill mountain bike park, an upgraded chairlift, and three new remote avalanche control systems, we’re making tremendous strides this summer thanks to the hard work of the Solitude crew.”
While these enhancements are underway, certain areas will be affected. Alongside Honeycomb Canyon; Queen Bess, Serenity, and Eagle Ridge mountain bike trails are temporarily closed.
