Special Weather Statement: thunderstorms incoming
WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — At 3:53 p.m. on August 1, the National Weather Service of Salt Lake City issued a Special Weather Statement regarding strong thunderstorms for the northwestern Wasatch region and north-central Utah Counties through 4:45 p.m.
“At 3:52 p.m. MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Wasatch Mountain State Park, or 7 miles southwest of Heber City, moving west/southwest at 10 mph,” the statement read.
Locations impacted may include Heber City, Heber, Daniel, Wasatch Mountain State Park, Midway, Charleston, Wallsburg, Deer Creek State Park, and Sundance.
The statement warns that wind could gust up to 50 miles per hour, which could move unsecured objects and blow tree limbs down. The wind could be accompanied by pea-sized hail.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building if possible.
Park City’s forecast for the evening states, “Showers and thunderstorms likely before 9 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 9 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph, becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%.”
