Utah Olympic Park shines bright with new ski run lights

PARK CITY, Utah — The Utah Olympic Park (UOP) had help hoisting approximately 30 new light poles from a hired helicopter on the sides of its new private ski runs last week along the ridge line.

The grand opening of the expansion occured last winter.

The runs are wider than most ski runs at the adjacent public ski areas due to the fact that they are homologated. Homologated fields of play are certified by Olympic level competition organizations to be able to host global-scale events. These runs in particular, are able to hold super-G alpine races and dual moguls competitions, respectively.

Prior to the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Games, similar lights were installed around the bobsled/luge/skeleton track which startled many residents in and around the Snyderville Basin the night they first flipped on the switch.
