Can you hook the fish of the week?
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Jans and Fishwest are putting local and visiting fly fishermen and women to the test with its Fish of the Week Instagram competition.
From Monday, August 21, through September, Jans and Fishwest will pick the best fish from submissions; winners will receive a prize from one of their amazing vendors. To be eligible to win, contestants should be in the Park City area the Monday following their submissions. Here’s how to enter:
- Tag both @fishwest and @jans_experts on Instagram*
- Use the hashtag #fishoftheweek
- Each Monday, a winner will be chosen from the previous week’s submissions.
- Have fun and always adhere to the best practices listed below!
*If your account is private, post using the #fishoftheweek, tag @fishwest and @jans_experts, then screenshot your post and send it via Instagram to either @fishwest or @jans_experts.
As always, we want to adhere to best fishing practices and leave no trace. Below are some details on how to handle fish safely.
Use a net, preferably with a rubber bag. These nets are less abrasive and do less damage to fish slime, scales, fins, and gills. Do not handle the fish with dry or gloved hands. When photographing your catch, keep the fish wet and allow them to breathe. If a lift of the fish is needed, keep them as close to their element as possible and limit air exposure to less than 10 seconds.
