PARK CITY, Utah—Summit County has seen an unfortunate side effect of the increased water levels: a surge in mosquito populations.
These pesky little insects can quickly make any outdoor activity unbearable, from backyard barbecues to evening strolls.
But fear not; there are ways to protect yourself from their itchy bites. Whether it’s wearing protective clothing, using bug spray, or simply finding a screened-in porch to relax on, don’t let these nuisance bugs spoil your summer plans.
Here are a few tips from the Summit Country Health Department:
- Repel- Safeguard yourself with mosquito repellent containing DEET or opt for natural alternatives like citronella.
- Cover up: Minimize exposed skin by wearing long sleeves, pants, and socks.
- Spray it right: Optimize protection by treating your clothing with a 0.5% insecticide permethrin spray.
- Eliminate breeding spots: Empty containers of standing water, clean gutters, and remove any potential mosquito breeding grounds.
- Screen it: Keep mosquitoes outside by properly screening windows and doors.
Another friendly reminder-timing is critical: Mosquitoes are most active during dawn and dusk, so plan your activities accordingly for a bug-free experience.
