Police Log: Deputies unable to locate perpetrator of high speed pursuit

Automobile Theft and High Speed Pursuit

An automobile theft was reported in the Kamas area, and as the vehicle was last reported headed to Kamas Main Street. As deputies were responding to intercept the vehicle, an officer with Park City Police reported the vehicle heading down SR-40 near mile marker forty. After attempting a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, the vehicle failed to comply and a pursuit ensued. Deputies pursued the suspect to the Jeremy Ranch area, where the suspect rammed a marked patrol vehicle and then traveled the wrong way on I-80. The pursuit was terminated and the stolen vehicle was later located.

Possession of Marijuana

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation near Wanship. Upon contact with the driver an odor of raw marijuana was observed coming from the vehicle.  A probable cause search was conducted and deputies located user amounts of marijuana. The driver was issued a citation and released.

Thursday, July 20

Theft

Deputies responded to a report of theft on Business Park Loop in Park City. Sometime in the night before a chain was cut and a generator was stolen from the property. The case is still active.

Recovered Vehicle from High Speed Pursuit

The vehicle involved in the vehicle theft and pursuit the previous day was located near the McDonalds parking lot on Landmark Drive. The vehicle was found to be running and in gear, but unoccupied. The vehicle was processed by deputies on scene, removed from NCIC, and the responding officer arrived to take possession of the vehicle.  There is still no suspect information pertaining to this case.

Possession of Marijuana

Deputies located a suspicious vehicle in the dirt parking lot of the Jeremy Store after normal operating hours. While making contact with the driver, a strong odor of raw marijuana was emitting from within the vehicle. A subsequent vehicle search revealed user amounts of marijuana and paraphernalia. The driver was issued a citation and released. Evidence was booked at the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Sunday, July 23

Driving Under the Influence

Deputies responded to an accident on Lower Lando Lane around 10:30 p.m. Upon arriving, deputies found a driver had crashed her vehicle head on into a parked pickup truck. The driver admitted to drinking 6 beers just half an hour prior. After showing signs of impairment and refusing sobriety testing, the driver was arrested for DUI. An inventory of her vehicle was completed where open containers were located. . At the jail a breath test was obtained with a blood alcohol content of 0.28.

Possession of Heroin

Deputies initiated a traffic stop near the 7-11 on North Silver Springs Drive. The vehicle was impounded for no insurance and canceled registration. After the deputies cleared the area, it was discovered the driver had provided deputies with someone else’s name, instead of his own.  The driver had multiple warrants out of Salt Lake City and deputies located a user amount of heroin and paraphernalia on his person.

Saturday, July 29

DUI

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on North State Road 32 and Sky Lane for a speeding violation. Upon contact with the driver, signs of impairment were observed, and there was an odor of alcohol coming from the cabin of the vehicle.  The driver agreed to participate in standardized field sobriety tests which he performed poorly on.  He was subsequently taken into custody for DUI.

Sunday, July 30

Possession of Methamphetamine

A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after the vehicle was observed to be traveling twenty miles under the speed limit on Kilby Road. Suspecting the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was engaged in criminal activity, a consent search was requested and granted by the driver. A subsequent search yielded user amounts of methamphetamine and paraphernalia. After the suspect was taken into custody, more paraphernalia was located on his person. The suspect was booked into the Summit County Jail without incident.
