Bidding for Solitude’s Eagle Express lift chairs to begin August 1

UTAH — Attention skiers and Solitude fans, Get ready to claim your piece of history from Solitude Mountain Resort’s iconic Eagle Express.

On Tuesday, August 1, an auction featuring 75 chairs from the retired lift will commence. Opening bids will start at $500. this is your chance to own a genuine part of Solitude’s past. The bidding window closes on Monday, August 7, and winners will be able to pick up their lift chairs directly from Solitude on August 11.

Not only will winners acquire a unique memento, but all proceeds from this exclusive auction go to the Solitude Fund. This initiative, launched by the resort, is designed to support staff members during unforeseen hardships.

“Since announcing the retirement of Eagle Express last winter, there has been tremendous interest from Utah skiers and snowboarders looking to purchase a chair from the lift,” Amber L. Broadaway, Solitude president and COO, said in a press release. “Eagle Express has been one of Solitude’s core lifts for more than 30 years and we can’t wait to see these chairs go out to their new homes”.

In a groundbreaking achievement back in 1989, Eagle Express emerged as Utah’s inaugural high-speed detachable chairlift, allowing skiers to explore iconic terrains like Challenger effortlessly.

The construction of the new state-of-the-art, 6-person Doppelmayr chairlift is in progress and is expected to be fully operational by mid-December of 2023.
