Lauren Macuga’s alpine skiing win-win at Whistler
WHISTLER, Canada — Park City’s Lauren Macuga won not one but two FIS Nor-Am World Cup alpine downhill races on the penultimate day and again on Saturday in the final event of the season.
1:03.23 was one of her winning run times; second-place was 1.37 seconds behind. 1:01.39 was her other winning run, with the second-place racer 0.92 behind.
“That’s pretty cool, but what that did was make her #1 overall and it guarantees her World Cup starts all next season!!!!” Dan Macuga, Lauren’s dad, wrote on Facebook. “She is over the moon excited and well….her parents think it’s pretty cool too as you can imagine.”
Macuga’s sister, Alli, stood atop her own podium in Europe in the same week for moguls skiing. Their brother, Daniel, attends the Winter Sports School when he’s not alpine ski racing, and their sister, Sam, is on the ski jumping team, USA Nordic.
