UTAH — The Provo Canyon backcountry area along the north and south of U.S. Highway 189 was closed by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) today at 10 a.m., and it will not reopen until 11 a.m. on Wednesday after avalanche mitigation work is completed. The highway will also be closed intermittently between 8 and 10:30 p.m.

The specific closure area is between Glen Canyon and Vivian Park along the highway and as far north as Big Provo Cirque and Cascade Mountain to the south.
