Where to get your horror movie fix this October
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Are you a horror movie buff? Do you feel like October is incomplete without being jump-scared in a crowd of other movie-goers? Then look no further than the Salt Lake Film Society’s “Tower of Terror” October horror series.
Salt Lake Film Society (SLFS) is a group of independent theaters highlighting independent film and love for cinema among Utahns. Their primary locations are 111 E. Broadway and their tower theater on Ninth and Ninth in Sugarhouse.
The Tower of Terror series runs horror films every weekend until October 31. While the series usually screens films at the Tower location, it is now located at Broadway while the Tower is under renovation.
Films included in this year’s series are as follows:
- October 15 “The Lost Boys”
- October 21 “The Shining”
- October 22 “The Exorcist” (a unique version released in 2000)
- October 28 “Hereditary”
If camp-horror is more your style, have no fear. The cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show is returning to SLFS on October 29-31. Tickets for this always unique viewing experience run at $25 but include a prop bag for audiences to participate in the kind of jokey-rituals Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings are known for.
Rocky Horror Picture Show fans will have two different viewing options at SLFS: the theater will have two film screenings each night at 10:30 p.m., one with a captioned sing-along and the other with a full drag cast performing live for the audience. The showings are for mature audiences only, ages 18 and up.
