Heber City murder suspect found dead in Oregon

JOSEPH, Oregon — 35-year-old Michael Grant Asman was found dead on Monday in Wallowa State Park near Joseph, Oregon, according to a Heber City Police press release.

A US Forest Service ranger discovered Asman’s white Chevrolet truck on Hurricane Creek Road at 12:45 p.m. and contacted Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:30 p.m., Asman’s body was located by a responding sheriff’s deputy within 100 yards of his truck. The cause of death and positive identification have not yet been confirmed.

Asman, the suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, 36-year-old Julie Ann Burns, fled from police when Burns was found in her Heber City home on July 14 with a gunshot wound. Heber Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Asman with probable cause for first-degree murder. Local state and federal law enforcement had been actively searching for him since Burns’ body was found.

The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
