Man shoots his own leg at White Pine Canyon construction site

PARK CITY, Utah — On Tuesday, May 3, Summit County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Park City Hospital for a report of a male with a self-inflicted single gunshot wound to his right knee.

Upon investigation and after speaking with the 25-year-old West Jordan man, deputies determined that he had been using marijuana prior to injuring himself.

The victim was with co-workers at a construction site near White Pine Canyon in the Colony neighborhood. While on their lunch break, the West Jordan man was allegedly cleaning the handgun in a vehicle. The man explained that he had recently purchased the gun and was showing it to his co-workers.

The man thought he had cleared the gun of bullets prior to pointing it at the floor of the vehicle and pulling the trigger.

After speaking with the man, deputies conducted a warrant search of the vehicle and found the firearm used in the incident along with marijuana.

Summit County Sheriff’s deputies believe the shooting was accidental.
