Park City High School ranked #5 statewide in college readiness
PARK CITY, Utah — U.S. News & World Report released their annual list of best high schools in the country on Monday.
The assessment data stretches back to 2016. The rankings used the three school years prior to the pandemic-afflicted 2019-2020 school year, in which students and teachers were forced to go remote. Graduation rates and college readiness data (looks at AP or IB exams) from the 2019-20 school year were included, however.
Where Summit County high schools landed in the overall rankings:
- Park City High School — #21
- North Summit High School — #66
- South Summit High School — #69
Park City High School (PCHS) is ranked #5 in the state when it comes to college readiness. It was listed as #1 in the state in the ‘College Curriculum Breadth Index Rank,’ which looks at the proportion of seniors that take and pass AP or IB exams in multiple areas.
South Summit High is ranked #53 in the general college readiness index statewide, with North Summit far behind at #104.
The AP participation rate at North Summit is 15%, with South Summit at 46%, and PCHS at 64%.
Park City High School is much larger with over 1,200 students. North Summit and South Summit both have enrollments under 500.
North Summit has the lowest graduation rate in the county at 88%, with PCHS at 93%, and South Summit at 96%.
Utah’s high school graduation rate was listed at 95%.
