No. 1 SLCC Men’s Basketball suffers heartbreaking loss in NJCAA title game

SALT LAKE CITY — Despite an impressive playoff-run and a historic 2021-22 season, No. 1 Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) suffered defeat in the NJCAA Division-I Men’s Basketball Championship final to No. 10 Northwest Florida State, 83-67.

Trailing 41-15 after the first half of play, SLCC fell behind early and never had a chance to comeback. Shooting a measly 6-24 (25%) from the floor and 1-8 from deep (12%) in the initial period, the Bruins fate was unfortunately already decided as they had fallen too far behind.

Despite the loss, Jaquan Scott posted a team-high 11 points while Chase Adams finished right behind him with 10.

While the Championship loss certainly stings, SLCC finished the season with an impressive 35-2 record and their only other loss coming against the College of Southern Idaho back in mid-February. They also earned a Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season title, a Region 18 tournament championship and an NJCAA West District title.

The Bruins latest appearance in the NJCAA Division-I Men’s Basketball Championship final marks the programs fourth and drops their record to 2-2 with the loss.
