Eagle Point presses charges against six “powder poachers”
BEAVER, Utah — Eagle Point Mountain Resort is pressing charges against six “powder poachers” who trespassed the privately owned resort property and proceeded to ski down several of the western slopes, ruining the freshly powdered trails.
Unlike many resorts, Eagle Point Mountain is only open to the public from Friday through Sunday. With the shortened hours of operation and only charging around $40 for a single-day pass, powder days are as good as gold and a true privilege for patrons.
After noticing the trespassers last Thursday, Resort staff members contacted the local sheriff’s office and accompanied an officer to confront one of the individuals at their nearby condo. Upon making contact, the staff member and sheriff were able to gather the names of the other offenders and supporting evidence.
“This was skiing a closed resort; this isn’t an uphill skiing policy situation,” Eagle Point Marketing Director Scott Curry said in an interview with Ski Magazine. “Comparing this to the backcountry would be comparing swimming in the ocean to someone swimming in another person’s backyard pool. A pool is something they maintain, install, and operate, and the ocean is wild. We did this because we want them to know that you’re not allowed to ski the resort when it’s closed, and we want to preserve the powder for when our guests come to the resort.”
According to the resort’s Instagram page, charges have been filed, and a hearing will be held.
