Sheriff identifies individuals in stolen vehicle pursuit
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement about the stolen vehicle pursuit on Wednesday that led to one death:
“On the morning of September 22, 2021, several law enforcement agencies in Wasatch County and Summit County attempted to stop two individuals who had stolen a vehicle, attempted to burglarize another vehicle, and evaded deputies and officers.
The multi-county incident began in Wasatch County and ended in Summit County on US 40 near mile marker two. After the driver of the stolen vehicle swerved to avoid a tire deflating device, the vehicle lost control and crashed off the highway. The incident closed US 40 westbound for several hours.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 22-year-old Charles Caster of Salt Lake City. The passenger has been identified as 19-year-old Daisha Reynolds, also of Salt Lake City. Both vehicle occupants were ejected from the vehicle after it rolled several times. Daisha was pronounced dead at the scene. Charles was transported in critical condition by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake area hospital, where he remains hospitalized.
This incident remains under investigation by the Utah Attorney General’s Office, West Valley Police Department, Park City Police Department, and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
