First high diving training center in the U.S. opens at Utah Olympic Park
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The first high diving training platform in the United States has opened at Utah Olympic Park in Park City. It will be open until late September this year.
The platform has a total of nine take-off points, the tallest at 20 and 27 meters. It is the first training facility in the country to have a platform higher than ten meters.
Also, it is the first platform in the world to increase by 2.5 meters from 3-20 meters. This creates the “optimal learning environment for complete beginners to pro athletes,” according to the High Diving Institute.
There will be a high diving exhibition at the park on July 22 at 7 pm. You can get tickets here.
High diving isn’t an Olympic sport, however, world aquatics governing body FINA has run an annual High Diving World Cup since 2014.
Divers can reach speeds of nearly 60 mph and go from a 27-meter platform to the water in roughly three seconds.
