Vail Resorts composts with Eco-Products
BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Vail Resorts partnered with Eco-Products to help deliver on their ‘Commitment to Zero‘ goal to reach a zero net operating footprint by 2030, including zero waste to landfill. Eco-Products is the Official Zero Waste Partner of Vail Resorts. Eco-Products says that they “believe waste can be a wonderful thing if we rethink the way we purchase and dispose of packaging.”
Vail is working to eliminate all single-use, guest-facing conventional plastic products across all 37 mountain resorts, and Eco-Products provides disposable food and beverage items like cups, utensils, and grab-and-go containers made from plant-based and recycled materials that align with regional waste streams so they can be composted and recycled, rather than landfilled.
This past ski season, the combined efforts of Eco-Products, Vail Resorts, and Key City Compost teams helped make significant progress toward mutual waste diversion goals for three Pennsylvania mountain resorts: Liberty, Roundtop, and Whitetail.
Using Eco-Products System Solutions approach, on-mountain restaurant packaging was selected. This unique approach focuses on controlling inputs and outputs. It makes it easy for customers and staff to improve diversion and for composters and haulers to receive a clean packaging stream. Once the product assortment was finalized on site, Eco-Products and Vail Resorts turned to a strong partner, Key City Compost, to help provide the bins, training, and education for mountain staff.
The partnership is excited to continue similar projects and to expand to other locations across the country. Learn more about composting and putting waste to work:
