22-year-old Man Drowns in Westgate Hotel Pool
PARK CITY, Utah — A 22-year-old man from Chapel Hill, North Carolina drowned Monday, Dec. 14 in the outdoor pool of the Westgate Hotel. According to a press release from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the man was swimming with three friends who later told officials he was going to go underwater and attempt to hold his breath longer than ever before as part of a breathing training. The group of friends were reportedly drinking alcohol all day.
According to the statement, “After about five minutes, the friends became worried after the man did not resurface – they jumped into the pool and pulled him out. He was unconscious and not breathing.”
Summit County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the incident around 9:45 p.m. Emergency medical personnel administered life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead after being transported to the Park City Hospital.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
