SUMMARY:Rooted in Tradition: Native American Food Sovereignty by Darren Parry
DESCRIPTION:Park City Museum will host a lecture called Rooted in Tradition: Native American Food Sovereignty given by Darren Parry on Wednesday\, May 20\, from 5-6 p.m.\, which will be held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive.  More information can be found at www.parkcityhistory.org. \nDarren Parry is the former Chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation. Darren serves on the Board of Directors for Utah Humanities and the PBS\nUtah. He attended the University of Utah and Weber State University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. In 2024\, he received an Honorary PhD in Education from Utah State University. Darren is the author of “The Bear River Massacre\, A Shoshone History” and teaches in the Environmental Humanities department at the University of Utah. He lectures around the country on Native American issues surrounding history and Indigenous views related to sustainability. He recently gave a lecture at the University of Copenhagen and spoke about Indigenous views to Climate and Environment. His passions in life are his wife Melody\, 7 children and 17 grandchildren. His other passion is his Tribal family. He wants to make sure that those who have gone before him are not forgotten.

DESCRIPTION:We invite the creative community to join us at ArtWorks – a new professional development series for artists and art organizations hosted by the Arts Council of Park City + Summit County. \nMay 22nd’s ArtWorks professional development workshop will focus on art and accessibility. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services reports that 1 in 4 Utahans self-reports living with a disability. Join Gabriella Huggins (executive director\, Art Access) and Jason Bowcutt (Director of Programs\, Utah Division of Arts & Museums) for an interactive session introducing participants to disability terms and definitions and exploring Universal Design through place-based learning to support arts and cultural professionals interested in implementing accessibility into their work and artistic practices. \nJoin us at CREATE PC at 1500 Kearns Blvd\,Space F110\, Park City\, UT 84060. \nWe’ll have plenty of time for questions and networking as well. \nThis event is free to the community.
