BalletNEXT: Summer Series
July 26 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pmFree
BalletNEXT is a Park City, Utah based ballet company. Under the artistic direction of Michele Wiles, former
principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre and acclaimed New York dancer and choreographer,
BalletNEXT pairs classically trained dancers, pre-professional dancers, and live musicians in a collaborative
setting that encourages risk taking and focuses on process to create dynamic, unexpected performances.
Michele Wiles founded the company in New York City in 2011 with a vision to produce interdisciplinary
performance projects and one-of-a-kind training opportunities.
Starting July 24, dancers from the Boulder Ballet, Ballet Festival Providence, MOGA Conservatory, and
University of Utah’s School of Dance will join Wiles in Park City to perform new and existing choreography
for a series of community collaborations and public performances. The Company is excited to invite back U
of U student Kayla Madsen, a BalletNEXT Leap Lab pre-professional dancer, as well as Juliana Godlewski
who’s previously worked with BalletNEXT and is now dancing with the Ballet Festival Providence.
The BalletNEXT Summer Series dancers will be performing at the Park Silly Market on July 24. They will
also be hosting open rehearsals for local student groups at the Soaring Wings Montessori school later that
week. The company is especially excited to announce their completely free performance for the
community on Tuesday, July 26 at the Park City Library’s Jim Santy Auditorium.
This season, BalletNEXT is thrilled to be partnering with the U.S Ski and Snowboard team on a very special
collaborative workshop designed for team athletes. Michele Wiles will lead a technique workshop, and the
BalletNEXT summer series dancers and musicians will present a demonstration of works-in-progress at the
USANA Center of Excellence in Park City. This special event will provide the dancers, ski, and snowboarders
a unique opportunity to learn from each other’s skills and training.
As a part of ongoing efforts to expand collaborations in Park City, BalletNEXT is pleased to announce that
this year, we are adding our newest and first local board member – Parkite Karrie McKinnon. McKinnon,
who has been an owner and designer at Wildfire Design and Real Estate here in Park City for over 15 years,
will pave the way for new local audiences and partnerships, beginning with a special series of
performances at the Talisker Club. BalletNEXT will be performing two shows at Talisker’s beautiful outdoor
venue, the Moon Dance Pavilion.
Live music will be central to the performance experience. BalletNEXT is thrilled to be joined by Utah-based
musicians Sophie Stanley (Spanish guitar), String FX (electric string instrumentalists), and the Tribeca
Ensemble (violin and cello).
Wiles says of the company’s new home, “Moving BalletNEXT to Park City has been a breath of fresh air. I’m
honored by how quickly the community has taken us in as one of its own. For the next decade of
BalletNEXT we look forward to creating many more unique events with world class dance, all inspired by
the magic of Park City.”
BalletNEXT Chairman of the Board James McCullough says, “Over the past few years since moving
BalletNEXT to Park City, we’ve been so grateful for the support and enthusiasm for the arts that we’ve
encountered here. This performance, in the heart of town at the Santy Auditorium, is going to be a very
special night of world-class creativity and connection between the dancers and musicians and our
incredible community. With every partnership and collaboration we’ve established here, our momentum
continues to grow, and we’re thrilled to show you what we’ve been working on and our vision for the
future of BalletNEXT as Park City’s resident ballet company.”
