New traffic signal aims to help buses navigate busy Marsac roundabout

PARK CITY, Utah — A new traffic signal is coming to the Marsac roundabout near the Old Town Transit Center as Park City works with the Utah Department of Transportation to help buses navigate the busy intersection.
Crews will install the signal this week, with the new traffic control expected to begin operating next week.
Two signal heads will be installed at the southbound Deer Valley Drive entrance to the roundabout, with one signal head on each side of the roadway facing drivers entering the roundabout.
The signal will not operate continuously. Instead, it will activate only when heavy traffic prevents buses from exiting the Old Town Transit Center and entering the roundabout.
When the signal activates, southbound drivers will first see a flashing yellow light, followed by a solid yellow light and then a red light. The red signal will briefly stop southbound traffic, creating an opening for buses to leave the transit center.
For drivers, the signal’s operation and traffic impacts will be similar to pilot traffic-control measures the city has used during the past two winters.
The installation is being completed in partnership with UDOT as the city prepares for another busy winter season around the Old Town area.
