Heads up, trail users: Armstrong Trail closure begins Monday for forestry work

PARK CITY, Utah — One of Park City’s most popular mountain trails will be temporarily off-limits this week as crews conduct tree work along the Armstrong Trail corridor.

Armstrong Trail will be fully closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 24, through Wednesday or Thursday, according to the closure announcement.

The closure is a hard closure, meaning trail users should not enter the Armstrong corridor during working hours.

Alpine Forestry crews will be actively felling trees on or near the trail. Signs will be posted at trail entrances, and staff will be on-site to help redirect hikers and bikers.

The roughly 4-mile Armstrong Trail is a key part of Park City’s mountain trail network, connecting the Silver Star area with the Mid-Mountain Trail. It is popular with both hikers and mountain bikers and provides an uphill-only route for bikes.

The trail has become particularly popular as an alternative to Spiro for uphill travel. Armstrong’s relatively steady climb and shaded stretches through aspen trees make it a favorite for both riders and hikers.

Trail users should plan to use an alternate route while crews are working and avoid entering the closure area, even if the trail appears clear.

An update will be issued once the work is complete and Armstrong Trail is cleared to reopen.
